Getting the right thobe fit doesn’t require a tailor. With a simple tape measure and a few clear steps, you can take accurate body measurements at home, the same way we do at Sunaan when preparing your custom thobe.
This guide walks you through each measurement: chest, shoulders, thobe length, arm length, neck, and wrist circumference. Every step has been tested, corrected, and simplified so you get the cleanest results possible.
Whether you’re ordering your first thobe or upgrading to a better fit, this is the exact measurement process we recommend to all Sunaan customers.
Why Your Thobe Measurements Matter
A thobe should reflect dignity, comfort, and modesty. When the fit is wrong, too tight, too loose, too short, or too long, the entire look suffers.
Accurate measurements ensure:
- Proper shoulder alignment
- Clean chest drape
- Balanced length (aligned with Sunnah guidance)
- Comfortable sleeves
- A neckline that fits naturally
- Proportional sleeve opening
At Sunaan, we tailor your thobe based on your body, not on generic size charts. This is why precise measurements matter.
Sunaan Self-Measurement Guide
Below are the exact steps used in the video tutorial.
Each section is short, simple, and visual, so you can follow along even without experience.
1. Chest Circumference
How to measure:
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest. Keep the tape level, straight, and relaxed, not pulled tight.
What this measurement represents:
Your body’s chest circumference, not the looseness of the thobe.
Note: Once you send us your chest size, Sunaan adjusts the looseness (tight, medium, or loose) based on your preference.
2. Shoulder Width
How to measure:
Measure from one shoulder bone to the other, across the back.
Keep the tape straight, not slanted upward or downward.
Why it matters:
The shoulder seam defines the entire thobe’s structure. A correct measurement ensures the thobe falls cleanly from the shoulder.
3. Thobe Length
How to measure:
Start from the top of the shoulder seam and measure straight down to your preferred length.
Stand upright and look forward to avoid shortening the measurement.
Sunnah guideline:
The Sunnah is to not let the thobe go below the ankle.
Most people choose a length that ends at the top of the ankle.
4. Arm Length
How to measure:
Measure from the shoulder bone straight down to the low point of the wrist.
Keep your arm relaxed by your side.
Want longer sleeves?
You can add a little length below the wrist if you prefer an extended sleeve style.
5. Neck Circumference
How to measure:
Wrap the tape around the base of the neck, the natural collar line.
Place one finger between your neck and the tape to keep the measurement comfortable.
This prevents:
- choking-tight collars
- stiff top buttons
- oversized necklines
6. Sleeve Opening (Wrist Circumference)
How to measure:
Wrap the tape around your wrist where the sleeve ends and read the circumference.
This is not the sleeve width — it’s your wrist size.
Sunaan uses this measurement to create the correct sleeve opening and proportional arm cylinder, so you don’t need to guess looseness.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Most fitting issues come from:
- measuring over thick clothing
- pulling the tape too tight
- slanting the tape on the shoulders
- bending the arm during arm-length measurement
- measuring the sleeve of an existing thobe instead of the body
Stick to the steps above and you’ll get a precise, clean result.
Need Help?
If any step is unclear, our assistant is here to help:
We’ll review your measurements, guide you if needed, and ensure your thobe fits exactly how it should.
1. I’m struggling to measure myself. What should I do?
If you can’t take full measurements, you can use Sunaan’s Standard Measurement System.
Just provide your T-shirt size and height. And our tailors will create proportional measurements based on our internal pattern system.

2. Do I need all six measurements to place an order?
No. If you can’t get every measurement, share atleast your shoulder and body length.
Our team will fill in the missing proportions based on your body profile and fit preference.
3. What if my measurements are slightly wrong?
Send them anyway. Our tailors double-check every measurement for anomalies and will contact you if something looks inaccurate or unrealistic.
4. Can I measure an existing thobe instead of my body?
We strongly recommend measuring your body, not the thobe.
Existing thobes often shrink, stretch, or have incorrect proportions.
If you prefer using your thobe as reference, send photos and we’ll guide you.

6. Do you offer international shipping?
Yes. Sunaan ships worldwide.
Shipping times vary by region, and tracking is provided for every order.
7. What are your return or exchange policies?
Since every thobe is cut and tailored to your exact measurements, we do not accept size-related returns.
However, if there’s a genuine error on our side, we will remake or adjust your thobe at no extra cost.

Tailoring usually takes 4–7 business days, depending on current order volume.
Shipping time is additional and varies by country.
