Famous Historical Places to Visit in Makkah During Umrah

The Grand Mosque

The Grand Mosque, Kaaba

This mosque is the most important pilgrimage site for the Muslims. It hosts millions of Muslims everywhere who gather there with an invitation from the Almighty. Moreover, only fortunate Muslims can visit it and experience its spirituality and sacredness.

Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his son, Prophet Ismail (SAW), built the Kaabah for the first time on the orders of Allah Almighty—every Muslim desires to visit this sacred historical site at least once. Therefore, if you can see it, you must be ready to embrace its spirituality and the faith-reviving journey it offers.

Jannat-ul-Mualla

Jannat-ul-Mualla

Jannat-ul-Mualla is a cemetery near Masjid al-Haram. It is a famous and sacred cemetery in the city because many relatives and companions of the Prophet (SAW) are buried here. Also, it is very close to the Holy Kaabah, which makes all the Muslims yearn for it to be their last resting place, too. Therefore, visiting this cemetery while you are in Makkah is the Sunnah of the Prophet (SAW).

Therefore, Umrah pilgrims also take some time to visit this cemetery to act upon the Prophet's (SAW) Sunnah. It is located near the Grand Mosque, and you can easily walk to the cemetery and send blessings upon the people resting there.

Cave Hira

Cave Hira

Cave Hira is located on a mountain called Jabal-e-Nuur. The Holy Prophet (SAW) meditated in this cave on the days when he received a guest from Allah Almighty. This was when he was appointed as the last Prophet (SAW) and was responsible for spreading the message of Allah Almighty and Islam.

One day, when the Prophet (SAW) meditated in this cave, he received the first revelation through Angel Jibrael. So, it is an essential ziyarat place to explore in Makkah.

Prophet Muhammad (SAW)’s Birthplace

Our beloved Prophet (SAW) was born in this beautiful city. It is enough for the Muslims to explore and visit all the sacred sites the Prophet (SAW) visited in this life. The Prophet (SAW) was born at a site located quite near the Grand Mosque. Even though you cannot find the original site of his birth, the place still holds a spiritual essence.

A library was built in the place of this site to spread as much knowledge about the Prophet (SAW) as possible. So, it is one of the must-visit sites in the holy city of Makkah.

Cave Thawr

Cave Thawr is another historical site near Makkah. The Prophet (SAW) and one of his close companions hid in this cave from the pagans while migrating from Makkah to Madinah. As they were hiding, Allah Almighty sent help to them in the form of a miracle. The infidels of Makkah were constantly searching for the Prophet (SAW).

When they came across the entrance of cave Thawr, they saw a spider web and pigeon's eggs, making them think that nobody was in the cave. The spider web and the pigeon laying eggs at the spot instantly were miracles from Allah Almighty to help the Prophet (SAW). The fascinating story and religious history behind this cave excite the Umrah pilgrims who try to visit the site.

Jabal-e-Rehmat

Jabal-e-Rehmat

Jabal-e-Rehmat, or Mount Arafat, is prominent in the Hajj pilgrimage. However, the Umrah pilgrims don't need to visit it. However, it has a distinct position in Islam, which makes it worth visiting while you are in Makkah.

This is where humanity started, as Prophet Adam (AS) and Amma Hawwa were sent to the world on the plains of Arafat. Muslims believe everyone will gather at this mountain on the day of judgment. The mountain has a certain spirituality and fascinating history, making it a must-visit historical place in Makkah during Umrah.
