Introduction
“And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me...”
(Quran 2:186)
Allah promises us in the Quran that He answers the Dua. And we know that Allah is generous. So what about those who make Dua during Umrah or Hajj?
Those who go for Umrah and Hajj are honored as the guests of Allah, as mentioned in a Hadith:
Jabir reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The pilgrims of Hajj and Umrah are the guests of Allah. He called them, and they answered him. They ask from Him, and He gives them.” (Source: Kashf al-Astār 1075)
So for those of you planning to go for Umrah, here are some tips:
Make Sure Your Heart Is Present
Don’t make Dua while your heart is not focused on what you’re asking Allah for. Try your best to make sure that your heart is focused and fully present on your Dua.
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Call upon Allah with certainty that He will answer you. Know that Allah will not answer the supplication of an unmindful and distracted heart.”

Take Advantage of Every Opportunity
When you’re going for Umrah, you have many opportunities to make Dua, and many positions and locations in which your Dua is more likely to be accepted. You’re already:
- A traveler
- A Mu’tamir (someone doing Umrah)
- In Makkah, the blessed city
So don’t just limit your Dua to Tawaf. Take advantage of the Sa’i. Take advantage of the Sujood when you’re praying in Masjid Al-Haram. Take advantage of your free time while you’re on the bus or train.
Be Persistent in Your Dua
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Every one of you will have his supplications answered, as long as he is not impatient and he says: I have supplicated but I was not answered.”

Dua is an act of worship, and we were created to worship Allah. So when it comes to Dua, don’t treat it like a fast-food restaurant or a next-day delivery. Continue with your Dua, don’t stop, even after you get back to your home country.
Make it a habit to beg Allah and humble yourself before Him. And the more you do that, the closer you will get to Him.
Avoid Haram Food & Income
Haram food and Haram income can be a cause of your Dua being rejected.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Allah the Almighty is Good and accepts only that which is good. And verily Allah has commanded the believers to do that which He has commanded the Messengers. So the Almighty has said: “O (you) Messengers! Eat of the tayyibat [all kinds of halal (legal) foods], and perform righteous deeds.” [23:51] and the Almighty has said: “O you who believe! Eat of the lawful things that We have provided you.” [2:172]” Then he (ﷺ) mentioned [the case] of a man who, having journeyed far, is disheveled and dusty, and who spreads out his hands to the sky saying “O Lord! O Lord!,” while his food is haram (unlawful), his drink is haram, his clothing is haram, and he has been nourished with haram, so how can [his supplication] be answered? [Muslim]
Have Good Thoughts of Allah
The Muslim should always have good thoughts of Allah. He knows that Allah is Merciful, Loving, Kind, Generous, and so on. He knows that Allah even gives the Non-Muslims provision and wealth, so what about those who believe in Him and worship Him.
Continue to have this outlook and you’ll find great benefits from it in your acts of worship and in your Dua InShaaAllah.
